Federal law applies to a number of employment situations. The following Federal Statutes provide you as an American citizen with a broad range of protections.   •     Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin
  •     The Equal Pay Act of 1963 protects men and women who perform substantially equal work in the same establishment from sex-based wage discrimination
  •     The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older
  •     The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 prohibits employers from discriminating against employees or applicants based on their citizenship or national origin and makes it illegal to knowingly hire or recruit illegal immigrants.
  •     Title I and Title V of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits employment discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities in the private sector, and in state and local governments
